Black History Week
In November the children at GBA learned about Black History Week.
We celebrated Black History week and as the theme this year was 'Saluting Our Sisters' honouring the achievements of Black women. We found out about African masks and looked at the sculptor Kimmy Cantrell, who is known for colourful ceramic masks depicting expressive asymmetrical faces with exaggerated eyes and whimsical features based on African masks.
We first designed and sketched our masks and then recreated our designs using cardboard. We managed to stick closely to our plans and really did a wonderful job. The finished pieces looked amazing!
