School Council

Why do we have a School Council?

The School Council is an ideal opportunity for pupils to get more involved in the way the school is run. The School Council benefits the whole school, pupils and teachers because it provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their feelings as well as influence decisions that are made. Effectively, pupils have a voice and strong input into school life.

School council meets every three weeks to discuss their thoughts and opinions about a range of school issues. The School Council committee consists of two pupils from each Year group 1 – 6, the School Council representatives were voted for by their peers.

The pupils all enjoy the responsibility of being School Council representatives.

What do children think about School Council?

  • They think it is important that they get to give staff members the voice of the pupils.
  • They think it is important that they are brilliant role models to other pupils across our school.
  • They enjoy thinking of ways to raise money for the school and other charities.
  • They enjoy School Council meetings and like that their voice is listened to.

2024-25

In September, pupils across the school voted for who they want to represent their class in our School Council this year.

Our school councillors this year are:

Year 1 – Robin – Mia & Amaan

Year 1 – Wren – Bella & Kaiden

Year 2 – Owl – George & Amber

Year 3 – Swift – Parker & Lyra

Year 4 – Kingfisher – Eddie & Nancy

Year 5 – Hawk – Isla-Niamh

Year 6 – Eagle – Gabriel & Amelia

Our school council meet for 30 minutes on alternate Fridays during assembly time. The councillors then have one class assembly slot each week to discuss anything from their meetings with their class. Our meetings have led to some brilliant discussion around how we can make our school even better and how to help support our community!

2023-24

  • The children were voted in as members of the School Council in early September 2023
  • The children decided what they wanted to focus on in our school this academic year
  • The pupils focussed on the importance of break and lunch times and the value of OPAL play, as well as how to raise money for school/charity.
